If you want it bad enough go for it. Shopping E-Bay and craigslist should net you most of the parts you need. What you can't find there the dealer would be happy to sell ya.

One of my riding buddy's went the other direction. He traded his 2004 Road Glide for an Ultra Limited. He likes it, but when we ride he always tells me how much he misses his R/G...

He was looking for a new Roadie, but couldn't find the color/options he wanted, so he bought the Limited. When I bought my 09 a few months later, he was pretty upset that I found what he was actually looking for.

He hasn't put any options on the Limited, and I suspect it'll be traded for another Road Glide soon...

hey housei! Sounds like your almost ready to go for it. I took a bat wing out a few times for test rides just to see the difference....BIG difference! No comparison to the shark nose for handling, stability and endurance riding. Mine is an older model ('05) so I never had to deal with the wind buffeting issues the new rides have but you can work through that with lots of options and ideas here on Roadglide.org

Oh ya welcome to the forum.
cheers!

Just starting my search for a RG. Trying to learn all I can. What causes the buffeting issues with the newer models that you don't have with yours.

Thanks,

IMO I think it has something to do with a coupe things.
1. Air baffle between the forks under the triple tree
2. Angle and height of the newer ('08 i think they changed this) is different
3. My stock windshield is MUCH taller than the cool looking LITTLE 'deflector' that comes on the stock RoadGlide.

When I took a demo ride on a new '08 Roadglide Custom I gotta tell ya it beat the he11 outa me with the wind buffeting. It was a windy day so it was a good comparison for me.
Cheers!

I have had several batwings, including an Ultra but most recently a Street Glide. I am amazed at the difference in handling. The front end feels so much lighter. I don't think I will ever go back.

I too went from an 07 SG to the 2010 RGC... I had taken a test ride the year before on a 08 RG that was tricked out and couldn't get it out of my head. I am really happy I pulled the trigger on the RG. It just a better ride...

I had wanted a RG since 2004, but waited to pull the trigger because the lack of aftermarket parts during those years. I had two SG's from then until last September, One was an 2004 Electro standard I made into a SG (before they came out with one in 2006) and the other was a replacement when I got ran off the road in 2007 (2007 SG). I finally got the bug bad in 2009 when the SERG's came out, but I'm glad I waited until 2010 for the Custom. It's more up my alley of what I wanted and what I wanted to do with the bike. Buffetting seems to be subjective to a point, depending on height and what shield your running. Sancho Wings and windvests are a great options if you want more control or the air.

The only thing I can say is be prepared to replace the headpipe if you get a new one. The EPA standard with the Cat in the headpipe has really made these things hot.

Pull the trigger, you may have to work on it, just like any other bike to get it the way you want it, but there is no mistake in choosing a RG.

I recently got off a 2010 Ultra Limited to get back on a RG. I purchased a friends '09 RG and could not be happier. This is my 3rd RG and although the Ultra Limited was a great bike with everything I needed it just did not fit me as well as a RG. I came close to getting a '11 RG Ultra but went for my buddies '09 since it had a ton of HD parts added on to it already. I say go for it and you will not regret it.

Good luck with your decision. hope it goes well!
You will know if its right for you.
I ended up buying the bike about 2 days after a test ride, and ended up buying it from another dealer who offered me a much better trade in value than my local dealership.

I to went from an Ultra to a RG. My RG is pretty much an Ultra minus the lowers which I am going to order next week. I miss my Ultra just because I had done a lot to it and it was a great bike however I have done even more to my RG and couldn't be happier. By far the best bike I have owned and that includes a Heritage, Road King Classic and the Ultra. I loved them all for different reasons but the RG is my favorite. That's just my opinion though. Good luck which ever way you go.

I ride an Ultra. Most people I know, who have went to the Road Glide, have never looked back. I have rode a Road Glide and my body just does not fit it. I would recommend riding one, and if it feels right go for it! If I was a few inches taller I would definitely consider the Road Glide. I love the looks of it. All you shark noses can't be wrong!:p

Thanks Walleye. Definitely am going to ride one. But now I'm curious...how tall are you?

I wanted an RG back in 2002 when they were really rare. I really wanted the the 2001 SE RG but even used they were just to expensive even back then. I went to a dealer to look at an RG but came home with an Ultra as I wanted the all the touring stuff.

I bought an 06 RG in Oct 07...this was loaded...I loved it. Had an accident back in April this year...whithin a month of getting it back...I traded it in on a new RGU.

Why it took HD so long to build this bike is beyond me...the popularity of the RG has exploded in the last several years and these RGUs are selling like crazy. I will never go back to an EG Ultra.
