I have a 2017 Road Glide Special. I picked up a set of DB WDX6Moto 6.5" speakers last week and finally got the chance to attempt installing these. I side by side compared them to the Kappas I had. At first I thought great these will fit perfectly...not so much. They are just a little taller which wasn't a big deal but in order to even get them angled in I had to remove the rubber grommet around the magnet. Once I did that they still would not fit flush and it's because the magnet is dam near as big in diameter as the speaker so they aren't going in. It looks like I may have notch the pods about a 1/8 inch for these to sit inside.

I have seen people use them on Street Glides but has anyone else used them on their Road Glides yet? Anyone have any suggestions? Also does anyone know somewhere I can get grills that are slightly raised over the stock?

Hopefully someone chimes in before I start cutting, lol. I plan to start back in on these probably Monday.

Check the other forum. Lots of those guys running them, someone will chime in.

Do you have an adapter ring or dropping them straight in? The BT adapters are angled so the speaker is offset just a touch. Call mike at BT and he may know how they fit. Others make them as well.

There are pics (old so you’ll have to dig, google as well) on the other forum of guys that have used a dremel to trim away a portion of the rib inside the pod. Other option is just cutting a rectangle notch out of pod where speaker hits and covering with dynamat or similar. IIRC that worked well for some of the Focals. Guys have also taken heat guns and reshaped pods, sounds like a pain though.

I want to drop them straight in so as to not raise them up any more because they would then not be able to put the grills on. I will probably end up doing the dremel route. If I could find some raised grills it would make it easier by making a rubber gasket to move them out further.

I ended up cutting the pods. The tweeters are a little tall so the grills don't quite fit. That's ok though, I've been wanting to do something different with the grills. I'm going to cut out the inside of the grills and use the frame and put speaker fabric in.

How much clearance do you need for the tweeters? The hawg wired metal grills have more room than the stock grills.

I searched Hawg Wired, nothing was listed for 2017. It's just barely a 1/8 inch. I already ordered speaker fabric it should give just enough stretch.

Not sure if you've looked into this, but I was told the tweeter grills are removable. Didn't have to for my '07, but that my buy you a little clearance.

Sadly, I wasn't aware of that but I'm ok with it, lol. My next post will show what I did. It's quite possible though because the 07 doesn't have the infotainment system there is a little more room.

So I got the speakers in, I had to cut notches in the pods due to the magnet size and reworked the grills and I am so much happier with the outcome. I pretty much gutted the insides of the grills, leaving just the outside trim. This allowed me the space i needed to put a thin layer of hot glue down to to lay a piece of speaker fabric over top, the tweeters needed very minimal room to fit but due to the honey comb structure under the grills they wouldn't fit. I removed the rubber seal from underneath and that allowed me to fold under the fabric and hot glue it there as well. The only piece of the rubber I reused is for the larger triangle that insert under the fairing. I trimmed all the excess fabric away to clean it up. They fit great! and look good. The final picture shows some light coming through but that was because I hadn't yet put the outer fairing back on.

Nice work! How's the sound?
They sound great, I have yet to go for a ride with them due to back surgery restrictions but I have had the bike running and the sound level at 5 and stood 30 feet away and they are crystal clear. I can barely hear the exhaust and I have Bassani Headers with LA Chopper Slipons. I'm waiting on a order from Ciro, the Fang Headlight Bezel before I button everything up.

Just a little update. So I turned these up to about 7 and had some distortion. I talked to Mike at Biketronics and he had me do a factory reset of the infotainment system EQ. Holy [email protected]! What a difference. I turned these things all the way up and dam near blew myself off the bike. I went in the house and my wife says, well if the exhaust doesn't get peoples attention that sure as hell will! Lol. All the windows and doors to the house were closed and I was in the back yard, she said she had to turn the tv up to hear it. The biketronics 2180 worked great, I can only imagine what a larger amp would do with these speakers it was completely obvious they had a lot more to give.

I don’t have it handy to attach, but the reset procedure for the head unit is on BTs website under support and is easy to do. If you have any custom gps routes that you want to keep make sure you export them first unless you already have a gpx file as backup.
