Nothing wrong with Harley Davidson oil. I use it in my Big Dog too. I change my oil every 2500 miles (about every 2 months) and my engine is in good condition. I've had it apart and looked inside and it looks fantastic. No need for me to debate HD vs. Mobile 1 vs Royal Purple, etc..... As long as I maintain my bike it will always run well. I think it's time for new head gasgets though; damn!

FWIW......Thing that makes me wonder about the MOCO OIl is that they bid that contract out. Low bid wins...I'm sure they set some minimum specs for quality but still makes me wonder what are we really getting quality wise.

Since motor oil is a small expense and the costs don't vary all that much I'd rather go with someone who's name and reputation is highly visable on the product and has a long term track record.

Good point. I see the same thing with tires (I work for Goodyear). People come in wanting the tire that "came on the car" because they think it's the best tire but in reality it's the tire that got the lowest bid when the OE was shopping brands.

Also, if you're going to run a full synthetic, and you REALLY want a full synthetic, go with one of the specialty brands like Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple, etc. Synthetics like Mobil 1, Castrol, Valvoline, Harley Syn3, etc are not true synthetics. They are class 4 crude (crude oil with the highest level of refinement) with some synthetic properties added in.

Of course, I've used those more common synthetics myself plenty of times, and had no problems. But the bike gets the REAL stuff.

I've used HD 20W50 Synth from the get go. Now that I am running gear driven cams, would a heavier oil quiet the gear drive noise down a bit? I've got 42K miles on the clock, with about 3K of those on the new 95" top end.

Mobil 1 VTwin 20-50 FS all three holes ..

Had RP75-140 in the tranny , hated it , hard shifts , the Mobil 1 is much easier shifting ..

Put the Mobil1 in the primary cause I had it there and cost the same as everything else , and didnt wanna go to town jus for some oil , prolly put the HD Formula back in the primary when I change again ..

I am curious about the racing oil , being an old harley drag biker for a spell and rubbing elbows with some real high dollar iron and aluminum folk ..

Not saying your oil isnt , but most racing oils are not made for 3-5000 miles oil dumps , most are made for a few hundred miles of hard werk ..
