my parents never had any money when I was a little kid,but every year my dad would take me and my brother to our local amusement park and that was our treat for the year. they had one of those rides that goes around in circle with fire trucks, tow trucks, cars planes and bikes. that ride was the first one I would run to as a 4 year old and up and even if I had to wait,i would get on the bike that closely resembled a Harley with the metalic paint and tons of lights.

well 40 some years later I finally bought my first Harley, the one shown in my pic. sure I had several other bikes through the years from dirt bikes, 3 wheelers, quads on up to a royal star.once my kids were out of school I finally had my dream of owning a new Harley come true.we bought this for our 20th wedding anniversary.
there are times while out on a long ride to nowhere, that memoery of being a little kid on that ride at the park still brings a smile to my face.:)

1. 'Cuz I can .
2. 'Cuz I want to.
Like others, I've owned and ridden many different bikes, but from my first ride on the back of a borrowed shovelhead in 1974. I was hooked. No other bike has given me as much visceral satisfaction as a Harley. I'v owned Kawi's from KZ650's to a monster KZ1300, and have ridden all manner or dirt and street bikes from the major Japanese manufacturers, But when I bought my first FXR in 1995. I knew I had come home. No other bike gives the feel or satisfaction of ownership that a Harley does. Are Goldwings a pleasure to ride? Sure they are. Are BMW's a great bike? Sure they are. but ask anyone, on any continent what bike, if they could own any one in the world, they would choose and 9 out of 10 would say a Harley. Been there, Done that and from Italy, to Germany, to France, Denmark,Turkey, Holland and Brussels, everyone I've talked to has dreamed of owing a Harley. So, Why do I own/ride a Harley? See numbers 1 and 2!

Because I can, always wanted a Harley, just needed a big bike ( 6'6" 265) couldn't gent one when I was active duty then got married so still no money. Wife always knew I wanted one, we took a day trip on pop's SG to get her a tee from another dealer and there sat my bike 13' no abs or security in black denim. Needless to say she got her tee and I got my bike ( thank god because 3 months later she gets pregnant) Now ready to ride my little girl around on the glide ( she liked riding when the wife was pregnant. would be active the whole time we rode)

I actually wanted a harley late in life. Raised in the hood/streets if you know what I mean I really didn't know about a harley other than the Hell's Angels rode them and that they leaked oil and broke down alot. Low and behold I saw Terminator and Arnold on that Fat Boy (which I thought was a Road King lol until later) . OMFG!!!!!! That means "Oh My F-----g God! I thought that was the coolest bike in the world. Fast forward 20 yrs at 35 yrs old I decided to buy a Honda VTX 1800. Had my mind set on it after owning a Honda Magna 750 a few years prior. I had $4800 to spend. I didn't think I could afford a Hog, but after looking online I decided to take a ride to Colombia HD in Colombia TN. Ended up purchasing a 2007 FLTR Mirage Orange with a load of add ons which I didn't realize I had on the bike until I totaled it and had to buy the one I have now and buy a bunch or chrome to make it my own. I haven't rode alot of other brands but I can promise you they don't have the character and soul of a Harley period!!!!!!! I'm not sitting on any other bike ever.

1. There is a camaraderie among Harley riders that does not exist with other brands.

2. I like to ride long distances and the Harley network is the best in the country. Too date, I have never been stranded for more than a couple of hours. It is a machine and will need a little TLC every now and again.

Started with a Yamaha TS 185 and moved to a KX 125 that I raced as a kid. Got a Yamaha Seca 550 as a teen and eventually a ZX10R.

Bought my Fatboy in 2010 and loved that bike but the wife said I needed something bigger if we were to ride a lot. I always hated the ugly look of the RG, but it grew on me. The most comfortable ride I have ever owned and the wifey is happy and that's reason enough. :D

I ride a Harley cause it stirs my soul.

I grew up in the sixties and seventies in southern MD. We had bike gangs, but what I remember was my cousins and my mother's best friend. They all had Harleys. My Moms friend let me ride his bike, an old DC police glide, but I was on top of the world when I putted around on that bike.

Got older and into cars and girls. Became a LEO and the agency I worked for did not like bikers. Was single and had the $$$ but I didn't want to bring the admin down on me so I put the dream away again. Then one day sitting on my couch, my then GF, now wife and I saw a very rare at the time HD commercial. I made a comment about how I wanted a bike, a Harley. Her eyes lit up, she smiled and out the door we went. After some serious looking and talking to a lot of very helpful people I bought a 1974 Shovelhead FX with the reverse shifting tranny.

Seven bike later I have never owned anything but HD Rode my brothers VMAX once. Three miles later it was back in the garage :(
I cant see me owning anything other than a HD:cool:

I ride a roadie because it's the bike that fits my lifestyle the best. I tested a few different harley models before I settled on the RG. had an '88 fxrp before this. Although I loved it, wasn't as comfy or reliable as the RG.
Growing up summers in Laconia, I got in more than a few altercations with Jacyls that thought if you didn't ride a harley, you were a piece of sh!t. I had a Yamaha 93 fz600 & and then a neat sport cruiser, a 96 Kawa zl 600. I loved that bike, and it fostered my love for riding. I still have it and will be giving it to a guy that works for me. But I took a lot of crap for riding them from the so called 'real bikers' out there. This turned me off completely, and I almost didn't want to get a Harley because of it. Then I realized that there are assho&es everywhere, and I'm not going to let anyone dictate what I ride. I talked to a shop owner and asked what bike he would want to ride across the country and he said an 88 or 89 fxr. (I guess he never rode a RG!) So I hunted for one and bought my first harley. I always go out of my way to talk to all bikers I come across, regardless of their machine of choice.

I've had all the Jap bike plus two europeans. Got my first Harley after my Dad died and left me enough money for a deposit in his will.

Got off the plane when I got home and went straight to the HD dealership in Perth and put the money as a deposit on my Heritage. Although I like other bike (Indian etc.) I think HD have far more pizza and I just like the most.:)

Got the 09 CVO in 2012 and it's the best bike I've ridden for comfort over long distances. Took me 3 years to find on the internet but worth the effort; my gain the other guys loss (he bought a Victory:eek:).

I have owned different brands.... the biggest allure for me was they have soul.

First Harley I rode was a fat boy that I rented in Arizonia. I felt I could ride forever on that bike. I did almost 1000 miles in a day.(the look on the guys face when I returned it with all those miles was PRICELESS!!:D) after that ride I always wanted one. I just had to wait to be able to afford one.

I ride a Harley Davidson, because.......................................................

-They're American
-Chicks dig 'em
-They are Comfortable
-They fit my 250lb./6'3" Build
-Craftsmanship compared to others is Superior (look @ other brands Fuel tanks)
-They are Stout
-Dependable
-The history of the company and their motorcycles
-The thing will always run if you have Air, Spark, Fuel, and Timing correct.
-Any motorcycle that can still go 80-100mph for an hour while pissing motor oil out of the rockerboxes is a good motorcycle. (This actually happened to me)

-THEY HAVE CHARACTER AND SOUL!

That is why I ride a Harley Davidson. (Any Model):D
