Hi I am new here and have read a lot of information about windshields here but I have a question about windshield height . What is the difference between the height on a Custom and an Ultra. I see two different heights between the two on some manufacturers . I am looking at a Freedom shield to replace the tiny shield for my new to me 2006 RG . Any thoughts on what height will work for me
I am 5'7 with a 29" inseam, I have also added the 2010 parts to raise the fairing so I can run lowers. Thanks

Good choice on adding the 2010 fairing brackets. They raise the fairing about 1.5" to allow hard vented HD lowers. I do not have them but lots of the Road Glide community depends on your own personal taste. Lots of RG owners would only use very low windshields because they look great, lots like taller windshields for function. There is also an adjustable windshield that lots of RG owners swear by. Personally, I have had a 6" shield made by a very popular company that looks great but did not work well. I currently have a 13" windshield with a recurve at the top. It works very well and I think it looks great too. I am now considering an adjustable windshield. Though some folks don't like the way it looks I think I like it. As a matter of fact This bike seems to have a way of looking great in any configuration. Good luck in your search. I challenge you to not spend too much money. And from Napanee Ontario, welcome to the forum.

I raised my upper fairing on my 08 so I could install the vented fairing lowers and I use a 14 inch Windvest. I used the 14 inch Windvest windshield before I raised the upper fairing and my line of sight was around 2 inches above the windshield. I am still using the 14 inch windshield and I see about a 1/2 inch above the windshield, it took a little getting use to but I like it this way now, I am 5'9. How you see over the windshield depends on your seat height too but I would think a 12 or 13 inch windshield would work just fine. The short windshields do look cool but that about all they are good for IMO.

I think IronMark makes a good point. As I said previously, I have the 2006 bike with original fairing brackets. Currently have a 13" WindVest and I sometimes wish I had a 15". I am also 5'9" tall body, short legs I guess. I am sure that with higher brackets my 13" shield would work a little better for me.

Some windshield manufacturers give the Ultra and Custom height different due to seat and lower rear shocks between the two.

Thanks for the information. There is so much to think about, and I don't want to start a windshield collection lol. How bad are the stock shields, not the windsplitter but the thumb nail ones. Thanks

Windshields are like seats what works for me may not work for you so good luck on your search. I have had good results and I have been very happy with Windvest windshields.

I'm 5'9" with 29" inseam, I use the stock seat on my RGC with a 11" windvest, I still get some wind buffering but I can hear the stereo going 90 so it works well for me. before that i had a HD 14" windspliter looked like a sale but less buffering. it's all in what you like and how you ride.

I'm 5-7 with a 30" inseam. Ride an '03 with stock height nose. I had a 15" and 12" HD shield and recently switched to an 8" WindVest. "Thinking" (like they advertise) it functions like a shield 4" taller... It does not. But I like it and don't mind out because my MAIN REASON was I NEEDED something I could see over....

I am looking at the 10" wind vest, I am 5'9, my seat is custom and lower then stock, I have the stock windshield on right now and its right on my eye sight. I have read on there site that they recommend that size for my height. Any one have any experience with that size?

Yep I'm 6'3" but I tend to slouch in the saddle and it puts the wind at the top of my helmet

And other suggestions from me are the HD wind deflectors between the tank and fairing and the deflector aka dog dish between the forks , I noticed a difference in wind management and don't need as big a shield , but these are my opinions not to be considered RG law :D

Great thanks, I am going to order it, like the lip on the top end, I have one on my deuce and seems to work good. I have heard about he deflectors, will try them out also. I am in the process of installing that diy air ride with monroe shocks, and speakers and amp. Gotta get it ready for Laughlin.

I also am running the GADS TRIPLE TREE air deflector... I can tell it redirected some of the air that USE TO come up between the tank and nose...

I was gonna try the deflectors that go between the tank and inner fairing, I just haven't pulled the trigger on that yet. I DO LIKE THE 8" WV.... but I do get some/more buffetting than the 12" HD I had before...but after getting caught in a rain shower AT NIGHT and not being able to see OVER IT...I HAD TO GET SOMETHING SHORTER!
