I've probably been dealing with trying to achieve the perfect wind management solution for over 20 years. I will tell you this not one company holds the holy grail. They're all sacrifices. For reference sake i have 3 windshields on my 15 RGS and i spent thousands trying to find wind comfort on my old sporty which ended up with a 1/4 fairing as the best wind management solution. HD, Memphis Shades all sucked.

Now let me explain sacrifice. I have a 13 inch LRS and a 16 inch LRS. in a head wind they totally suck even worse in a cross wind on the RGS. You may ask why. Simply pushing a wall of air does not negate the negative pressure pocket they create over clean air. So you ask yourself whats that helmet thumping noise when you feel around and cant find any strong currents. The bigger recurve may deflect air but they also disturb the pocket of quiet air pressure created by the RGS fairing and stock windshield.

In a perfect world where you have zero wind or better yet a tail wind. These taller shields provide a quiet pocket but i don't know where you live we always have wind here in Ohio. Hell the stock RGS shield is quiet in a tail wind

I mentioned sacrifice. I have clean air with the stock, but its has more noise at lower speeds. At highway/interstate speeds not so much. I have to clean my face shield more frequent on the stocker but i have to clean my other two windshields more because they are bug swatters lol.

Something else to consider. I mentioned air will fill in where its not wanted when diverted. I get zero updraft with the stock shield. I get major updraft with the 13 and 16" being worst. You see there is much more to wind management than a windshield. It also has to do with air pressure as well..

Take some time and look at the Rushmore RGS fairing ie the lines, angles and you will notice this fairing was designed to bust a clean hole in the air and well it does a damn good job of it. Its no noisier than a bike without a windshield tbh. The stock shield is a dream for a 6 foot rider on a calm day. Opening my face shield at 70mph with prescription glasses is totally comfortable. I don't recommend it because well its like riding without a shield in every aspect and nobody wants an eyeshot from a bug at any speed.

I guess what i'm saying is simply directing air up and over and around the rider may seem cool but its really not that simple when it comes to putting a rider in passenger into the comfort zone. Any rider with years of experience admits the naked bike is the smoothest ride in any wind. I said smoothest not necessary most comfortable if you hate wind hitting your body. I'm too old for hanging on anymore thats why i bought a Road Glide Special

Could you imagine GP road racers having to deal with buffeting at 200mph thats why they have pretty much a naked bike. Even a cage doesn't have a clean pocket of air with the windows rolled down. So don't think a little piece of Lexan, Acrylic can do better

My sacrifice is a bit more noise and bugs with the stock in warm weather and having to put up with the annoying thumping and updraft of my big shields in cold weather. Far better ride when its raining with the stock and the wind clears my face shield in short order.

Just trying to share some experience for people thinking there is a perfect solution and well there is not nobody what anybody tries to sell you. None of the windshield manufacturers check performance in a 20-30mph crosswind a real world riding condition for us. In that situation smaller is always better .

All good points. Exactly what I've found as I attempt to find the "best" air movement (for me) on my CVO

I don’t know if the MOCO designed the aero package with the Full face rider in mind but it feels like they did. You definitely want quality safety eyewear if you ride without a FF helmet on the stocker. I got pegged in the cheek at 45 mph with visor up today lol. Didn’t feel good. This morning 45F ride to work perfectly comfortable with stock shield. Clean air is a priority for me.

Granted, I have not spent that kind of $$$$$ and my shield experience is from an old Vetter fairing,(with tallest available shield) frame mounted on a '78 wing to a Windvest 12" on a 15 RGS that didn't work for me over 50 mph,; then Madstad, don't remember height(think it was a 12 also); she's, the bike, gone now. Rode the RGS in all kinds of weather on a west coast trip w/ brutal crosswinds in the plains and up in the mountains. Can't imagine anything better and wasn't looking. I'm 5'11" Just my .02 Now if Madstad will just come up with something for the Slim!:serious::surprise:

I have the stock unit
Cool for bar runs and warm summer months

I have a Klock Werks 14” Sportsflair, kicks ass period

I have two LRS Stingray shields, a 10” and a 13” and there both great for me

Lowers are great as well

I’ve had two baggers and never had any issues trying to find a windshield

Most of my bikes didn’t have fairings or windshields and that was all good

It’s a freaking motorcycle man

You want perfect wind management, it’s time for a Muscle Car not a bike

Perfect wind management and you’ve spend thousands

Thousands

Lol

Holy shit

Don’t take this wrong because JD and I got together earlier but shit, come on man it’s a motorcycle

Fairing lowers make a huge difference.
I would agree, but then there's form over function, and on the CVO (with the chopped engine guard), lowers are not an option. I have a couple of things in the works. I will report back once I have all the pieces, and the weather allows a little riding (rain and snow lately)

Hey Jack, I saw you swapped your RG for a Slim. Congratulations on your new bike.
I had a '14 Slim a few years ago. I was on a a '10 Ultra Classic. After 3 years and 35,000 miles I still could not get comfortable in a parking lot. Just to top heavy for my short legs.

I ended up trading it for a '14 Slim and did some light touring on the Slim. I added a Memphis Shades batwing fairing that worked well on that bike for keeping the wind off the face. A Mustang seat really helped on the backside as well. That stock seat was only good for 100 miles.

Hear is a shot of the touring setup.

The bags were from a Rocker.

Thanks for the pic and the info on "upgrades". You mentioned short legs; may I ask how tall you are. I'm 5'11" and looking for wind management since I'm not a young man anymore and fighting that wind is rough. Know exactly what you mean about "top heavy" and my left knee was screaming every time I lifted it off the jiffy stand. Thanks again!
Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack the thread!

I'm 5'5"
I ran the 5" spoiler shield. I bought a taller ghost shield but it was too tall for me.
If your ever in the St. Louis area with your ride and you want to try a batwing out let me know. I still have it and would be glad to let you try it out.
