My bike came with a 15 in. windspliter, hated it. Began looking for a new shield and ended up ordering a windvest 10 in. gunsmoke as the fitment chart suggested, too short and dark. Sent it back and got the 13 in. in light tint. PERFECT! The wind stream just catches the top of my helmet and my eyes are 2-3 in. above the top. At 5' 10" on a sundowner seat ( adds 1 in. over stock) and on a air hawk ( adds another half in.) it's going to work great. I wish Windvest would list the height of each shield from the top vent to the top of the shield, better fitment method in my opinion. FYI, the 13 in. is 6" above the vent to top of shield.

I'm not real impressed with my Windvest. I does good job with the wind, but I have been catching a lot of bugs in the face (the big ones sting a little). I'm 5'8", they recommend a 9" for my height but I went with a 10". I'm going to keep looking, maybe a Memphis Shade?

Ive went thru 7 different shields in the past 9 months, from 8-12in shields of different brands. The 10 in gunsmoke is what I went with. Its the best ive used IMO. Im 5'11 and I look right over the top of it on my 13 with the stock seat.

Windvest is the best windshield IMO. I had a 14" on my 2012 and will be getting a 14" for my 2016. Great shield and even a better company to deal with. I'm 6'3" by the way that is why I go with the 14".

Put another 50 miles on tonight, hit 85 several times in a 30 m.p.h. head wind, no problem. These roadglides are solid in the wind. Stock exhaust is the next upgrade, so I'll be spending hrs. in the fuel, air, and exhaust section. So many ways to go. Btw, mines a 2016 RGS with less than 500 mi. Still getting it broke in.

Windvest 10

The Windvest 10 was my final choice. The 9 was what was recommended, tried it (and a few other manufacturers) and it was tge best of the lot. 10,000 miles on my 15 and I'm still happy with it. The local HD dealer made it easy on the pocket book by letting me try various shields and only buying the one.
An 11 day trip last summer on the Canadian east coast gave lots of different weather conditions to test it out.
Still happy.
And Windvest was great to deal with as well.

If you have the correct size Windvest and you are not happy, I doubt you will find a wind screen that will make you happy. There is a thread about all the windshields and the ratings that was posted on this site. It came from one of the rags I believe. The Windvest out performed all other windshields on the market. I did something a little different. I bought a 14" (too tall for me) and I put the two front screws in loosely and then read the back out and tilted it back toward me more in line with the nose of the fairing. Once I had the correct lean and height I wanted, I marked the shield with a a marker along the rubber gasket and used a cutoff wheel to cut the bottom of the windshield down. Then smoothed the edges with emory cloth, rubbed the edges with WD-40 and you can't even tell it had been cut. I also made a little shape on each side to give it a more sportier look. Best windshield yet for me. I might even order a 16" now and do my massaging to it.

A friend of mine has a Freedom shield on his 15' and says he thinks it is great because it is made of a thicker material than most other shields so therefore it doesn't flex any at high speeds. He did run a WV on his 09' CVO but he said he couldn't really compare the 2 bikes because the newly designed fairing makes a ton of difference and it's like apples to oranges. The Freedom does look very similar to the WV so not sure if it is any better but it is certainly a sturdier material. I don't have a lot of experience with the Rushmore Glides so I can't really say for sure. If anyone ask me about the 13' and older bikes then I can tell you without a doubt what shield is the best.

I had a H-D Wind Splitter on my 2012 FLTRX, loved it. I'd try a Wind Splitter on my 16, but it only available in a light tint.

Long Ride Shield - Thresher

Went thru the WindSplitter thing, have a 15" med tint to sale.
Got the LRS 15" Thresher and never looked back. No buffeting or whistling that I was getting before.

LRS might still have their sale on for $79. - CAN'T BEAT THAT!!!

I have a 13" LRS on my 15RGS. My golden rule is can i wear a half helmet and wear regular prescription glasses without eye irritation at 75mph or higher. Do i get wind to my face? Yes, do get buffeting? Nope. I get no more wind than driving my cage with the windows down in fact generally less. I'm from a genre of bikes that have brain scrambling buffeting with a shield. This bike stock with a slightly taller windshield is exceptional. HD knocked it out of the part with the vents and redesigned faring.

I just can't say enough good things about the 14" Sportsflair by Klock Werks. IMO it is the best shield out there. Everyone will have their own opinion on this topic. Good luck.

I also have the 14" KW and I have to say I am not that impressed. I think they are one of the best looking shields made but no very impressed with the wind to the face thing.

It'd be awesome if everyone who posted an opinion also mentioned their height and where they look over the shield (look through, just barely over, 2 inches, etc.). A 5'10 guy is going to have a completely different experience with a 14" shield than a 6'4 guy.

All quotes on testing windshields should be with the obvious height of the windshield should hit you between the most and the tip of the nose. That is the only true test of a windshield that you look over. There is a comparison test in an older thread that compared all the main windshields using a similar method. The Windvest came out on top in every test.

I do both. Look through in the cold weather, and over the top in the warm or when it's raining.

Only takes a moment to reset it.

MadStad 11" or 13" adjusted as need solo or two up smooth air for both rider and passenger. Best of both world. It's ugly but sure get use to it.
After gone through 3 shields found the MadStad and nailed.
And is made in the USA :+1:

I am having a hard time figuring which height Windvest to order. I have read through this thread and an older one. When I go to the Windvest website, they list as applicable for 1996 to 2013 and have two charts for RG, one for RG and one for RG Ultra. I have a 2011 RG Ultra. I am 5'10 1/2" and the RGU chart says a 14". The RG chart says 12". I sent email to Windvest and got answer they recommend 12 or 13". So when I read most of these posts, I see lot of RGS. So I am thinking the heights in most of these posts won't be right for me. Appreciate comments.

There is no way you would be able to look over a 14" Windvest at your height. I'm 6'1" and the 14" caused me to have to sit completely erect , which is impossible for any length of time. The 12" should be about perfect for you. If you find the 12" is too tall, pm me and I will explain how to adjust it by cutting off the bottom making it slant more toward the rear.
