Hey all! I thought it was time to start a build thread so I could document everything that is being installed, removed or replaced on my bike. I made the switch to a Harley in 2016 when my wife no longer wanted to sit on the back of a rocket and we haven't looked back since. I purchased a 2014 Ultra Classic and I didn't think I could get any more comfortable on a motorcycle... was I wrong! I traded the Ultra in for a 2018 Road Glide Special and I have been purchasing parts and putting on miles instead of doing house work all summer long ;). With winter arriving I have plenty of parts and pieces that need to be installed before we go to Daytona in March for bike week.
The current list of parts that have been installed or that are sitting in boxes at my house waiting to be installed are:
13" handlebars (currently installed)
Extended Brake Cables
Wind Shield
Garage Door Opener
Hidden Antenna (currently installed)
RCX Slip ons (currently installed)
Docking Station (currently installed)
Back Rest (currently installed)
Kuyrakyn Bolt Covers (currently installed)
Arlen Ness Deep Cut Grips (currently installed)
Fairing Vent Screens (currently installed)
Passenger Floor Boards
Avon Axle Nut Covers
Heel Shifter eliminator (currently installed)
SMT 23"x5.5" Front Wheel
Matching 13" Rotor on the front wheel
Header Pipe
Magna Flow Slip-ons
Arlen Ness Deep Cut Shifter
Arlen Ness Deep Cut Brake foot Lever
HHI Caliper
Speaker Lids for JL 8.8's

Parts that need to be ordered yet are:
Diamond audio 800 watt 4 channel amp
Rockford Fosgate Digital sound processor
MPK 6.5" speakers and tweeters
JL 8.8 Speakers
American Suspension Bolt on Rake Kit

Probably won't have time to get to these parts but my "wish list":
Front and rear air ride
Arlen Ness Deep Cut floor boards
Rear swooped fenders and bags

I'll post pics in the next couple of days. I welcome everyone's thoughts, criticisms or suggestions; my skin is pretty thick...

Not sure of the 23 inch front wheel and touring but if touring is not your thing......all good - Again, I don't know as I have never toured with a Biggen Up Front so curious what your report will be

You had me at the tunes .........

Sounds like a bust winter. I have to also agree the 23 inch front tire is one I would pass on. But your ride your cash. In Wisconsin myself. At least one of the sidecars will be ready to ride at anytime all winter.

I did quite a bit of research prior to purchasing the 23. Unfortunately there isn't much feedback on this setup because it is a new release from SMT this year, but someone always needs to be the first. The reviews I found of the 21" fat tire were almost all positive as long as everything was raked properly and the fatter tire on Wisconsin roads should help the ride quality but we will see. I have no intention of scaling back how much I ride because of a wheel... If i don't like it a new setup would be installed relatively fast , this is one of the reasons I'm going with a bolt on rake kit rather than a weld on.

Here's the day it was dropped off at our shop. It was a fun week; I purchased the 18 Road Glide, my old man bought the 18 Street Glide, my brother bought the 16 Street Glide and my buddy bought the 04 Heritage. The first three came from the dealer and the Heritage was my dad's old bike.

One of the main reasons I started looking at different wheels was because a railroad track in town took out my front wheel and Harley had no interest in helping me out. I was going under 20 mph but the only person that believes me is the guy I was riding with. Anyway, the dealership and Harley said I should have taken the extra wheel and tire insurance. You would think after we spent 75k in a week at the dealership they could have helped out a little... Oh well, they were great about everything else it was just a little disappointing.

Harbor Town Harley in Manitowoc WI. They were great to deal with other than the wheel.

I raked the front end on 2017 RGU with a trike Tree, and used the trike tubes that are about 1 3/4 inches longer. It was done for different reasons. Surprise was HD tree was lower cost than after market.

Sounds like a fun build and looking forward to the final product!
Audio set up should be a big time improvement over the stock set up. I applaud your choice of not buying a "Package" set up, and going outside the box. You have the parts to have killer tunes on the bike, do you have DSP experience? They can make your system a grand slam if tuned right.
Good luck with everything

I don't have experience with dsp but I do work with oscilloscope's on a daily basis for work. I think it should be easy enough for me to figure out and if I need help there's always the forum!

The front rim showed up and I wasted no time mocking it up on the bike. The rake kit hasn't even been ordered yet but I "needed" to see how the wheel would look in between the forks! *Notice: I also have plenty of house construction going on and I'm sure at some point my wife is going to be more interested in a completed house than motorcycle... but until then I'll be in the garage.
