I have an 09 RG with an R and R 103. badass and x country twice with zero problems. blows my friends 2010 SG SE away. he hates me. As you know the MOCO cranks are not true and I had to have the lower end done to swap to gear driven cams, which are Andrews 615. to much stuff on the complete bike to list
My question is this. I'm looking into getting another bike to rip around the local mountains in northern New England. I was thinking aboiut throiwing the 120r in but hear there are warranty issues with Jims, chain driven cams. Which leads me to think that the cranks are not trued and balanced. $1700 to have that repaired.
What do you guys think? Pros and Cons of the Jims 120r v an R and R 117?

Personally, I'd do the R&R 117...simply because the crank will be balanced and welded with the Timken bearing set-up.

I'm running a "mild" 117 in an 05 softail...the thing runs like a raped-ape, nice and cool, and I have "piece of mind" that the crank will last for a very long time.

I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions, but if it were me...I'd go the 117 "if" it's easier on the pocket-book than the 120-R after you pull it apart to get the crank-thing all dialed in.

So there....go ahead an rip me to shreds....JMHO.

: )

If your willing to spend the money for a 120r I would suggest looking at the S&S 124" engine for 2007 and newer touring bikes. The crank is not a issue with them.

so far I'm reading what I thought. my current 103 was done twice. 1st time by my HD dealer then I got my learn on and had R and R do it from scratch. Twice the loot but the end result was worth it. Money is always a concern which is why I'm gunna buy this one used. Mark at R and R is working on a quote for an 88 to a 117 and I shoulod have that on Monday. Ive no doubts about them but was curious about the 120 and when asking around I started asking around, talk about the lower end on the 120 started coming up. NFG.

digga. i have to get the same clutch for my 103. SE spring cant keep up with the demand. what were your dyno digits? I'm guessing you had to have your crank trued. How big did you go on your cams? I gotta plan my build a little better this time. Broke the 103 in, in Feb. Hats off to my Carthart one piece, saved my dumbass.

Cappten,

LOVE the Rivera Primo with TTP clutch. I'm using the spring next up from their standard offering (I'm pretty sure they have a stronger one...I'm using their middle one) and the clutch-pull is really nice. I originally ran the stock HD-Basket with the "Energy" +1 plates and VPC with my 117. A friend turned me on to the Rivera Primo and I gotta tell you----I immediately ran out and bought one for my 02 Road-Glide with the T-111 motor.

I'm a big fan...I think you'll really like their clutch...great choice.
