Anyone know for sure the size of the speakers that come on the '15's??? Are they 5.25" for both or 5.25" for Standard and 6.5" for the Special. I know the Special uses baffles behind the speaker. Are the mountings specific on the speakers on either that would require some sort of adapter??? Looking to just upgrade the speakers for now for something a little more efficient.

I know for sure the standard speakers are still 5.25, you might want to check with Vtwin audio or Soundz concerning adapters, or whatever else is needed, both companies are already doing systems for the 15.

Hogtunes 362F-RM 6.5" front speakers into a 2015 RoadGlide Special.
Easy Plug and Play - no adapter no muss no fuss $159.00 -

-did you notice how easy it is to change the fairing speakers?
-also how small the magnet is on the stock HD speakers VS the HogTunes?
Big difference in Magnet size - just saying...

Thinking of doing the same thing - with a nicer grill - (don't like J&M's) if I go this route will keep stock grill
don't know how good these sound - HT boast that they are the $**
IF? they sound good..nice bass, mid and tweet- for the price not too bad - looking for speakers that could work good for now
and keep if add amp later

ANYTHING WOULD SOUND BETTER THAT THE HD STOCK OR THE UPGRADED HD BOOM SPEAKERS :)
(which sound like crap)

J&M ROKKER® XX 6.65" Fairing Spkr Kit 2014-15 Harley StreetGlide/Ultra # HCRK-6652TW-RXX
(SAME SPEAKER FOR 15 ROAD GLIDE (different Grill) = $389.99
HAWGWIRED ZX Series 6.5 Component Speakers $199.00

HD "BOOM" 6 1/2" faring speaker upgrade

I did't like the stock plastic grills they come with. There is a 5 1/4 " speaker in a 6 1/2" hole. The boom 6 1/2'"speaker kit comes stock on the CVO. It features a metal grill that looks great and is easy to install without removing the outer faring. The sound is better, not great, HD amp avail as well. Nice part is that it all fits.

The only bad thing about the CVO/Boom upgrade speaker grills is they have a indentation in them for the tweeter. That and they are $36 per side.

this is good - ( we'll take the good with the bad, backwards glove boxes and triple headlight opening for dual headlights ) ( vents that leak, unnecessary exhaust port cooling worth 2hp )

6.5 as stock opening, and front loaded, more accurate bass

same rules apply though, 98db v. 92db stock won't matter on the highway much

you'de still need 114db to 124db to hear it, feel it, and enjoy it

and those numbers are rated at clean output, not someone barf standing on their system

I'm not going to trade in my mule to find out the specs, under the fairing, but hopefully find a takeoff fairing at some point.

another good, would be, whatever smartphone based radio is in there now, would have a digital and more reliable audio output than the 2006-2013 radios, saves on endless cradle upgrades

ZX and an amp, best sound, Biketronics HAT #2, both because of direct to biker warranties

seriously, if harley has a $1000 upgrade package, see the value at about one third of the wholesale price

Good to know and thanks for the insights...what would you recommend as Best 6.5" speakers without the use of an amp *right now?

May upgrade to amp later.
My 13 had J&M *Rokkers with HAWGWIRED amp
sounded good but with this new setup looking at something comparable or better ...starting with speakers first...

I'd grab your ohm meter and determine what the resistance is

1.6ohm = 1ohm
2.4ohm = 2ohm
3.7-4.6 = 4ohm
5.7-8.7 = 8ohm

knowing harley, they're 1ohm CVO and 2ohm Base

so, that's the answer, stat shopping for 2ohm speakers

whatever the lowest reliable, power/ohm rating is v. highest spl output
measured in db@1w (( 92-94db spl are louder than 89db spl ))

Kappa, MM651

If you can, find a best buy wall, with you're options, so you can see if the speaker is listenable at high volumes, have your best internet price, make them match it, and but the 3 year extended warranty

Thanks will update findings
sounds like the best route yet ...especially the returns aspect + better speaker options at better prices I'm in!

Just ordered these from Amazon - can't wait to install and listen :)

I saw that but the guy kept on about comparing magnet sizes. Two different types of magnets are shown. The boom ones were probably just as efficient or better because of the material. These days, size don't matter as much. I'm sure the Infinity are way better but not because of the size of the magnets...

Yeah just the speakers for now - but I'm thinking I'll have to bite the bullet and get an amp sooner than later - Just purchased these VXT65 speaker baffles from Install Bay - the speakers sit inside the concave and eliminated the outer (inner ) fairing plastic tin can sound- will start here - see if sound improves some

the kappas are more accurate, so without RMS power they are going to sound even flatter

those baffles, might help with tin space, etc.. but ultimately I removed mine
because they we're limiting cone movement through air compression

shopping amps, for sure, there are only two "must haves"

size

full adjustable crossovers

and about 400W RMS is nice

#22 ·
Thanks for the info it's a great guide...maybe I'll cut some holes in them
to allow some air flow, test it
with and without ....started looking at Mini amps, not sure I wanna go back to HawgWired prices.. found a mini amp online $178 from Infinity ...not too versed in the science of it all still learning .....
What will u recommend as a good amp married to these Kappas?

#23 ·
full adjustable crossover

two channel

tons of power

RF PBR300x2 is my favorite at $150 price / / hawg wired is obviously bike engineered USa built, more dekkos

I don't like fixed crossover points, on rockford 4 channel and soundstream amps

a switch, for example, full / 80 / 160

those assume too much, I like dialing in the speaker by watching the cones move and listening for distortion, although for 6.5" speakers, it's usually been around 80Hz and above, plays louder

full bass can kill the system quicker

I did the foam surrounds with holes also, once you have power, you'll see they can be a hindrance

there are way to deaden out the outer fairing wall, juke padding, with 3M spray, that stupid acoustimast crap, even felt pads, I used felt pads, near the corners, felt is naturally 2600 fire resistant, not that the plan is flames, but the headlights tend to emit some white residue

but honestly, I only like the PBR300x2 for it's size and fitment on the up to 13 bikes, allows for 4 speakers total and a good use of power.

whatever fits, fits, remember to look for something that is small enough to, not get wet, have some air flow, also height is important

biketronics stuff is good also, same cat, big price

Will look into RF PBR300x2 - see if it would fit in 15RGSpecial
saw on V Twin Audio's website the plug & play harness for 14-15 -front speaker wiring interface (VTFSA14) and amplifier power wire harness (VTRAW)- may have to purchase those items additionally prior to install

#26 ·
just ordered From V-twin Audio the - (HOGWIRED AMP same I had in my 13 ($#@!!) - will keep the Kappa's 6.5" speakers explore their best potential first with this amp (only thing is if liquid gets in through the speaker grill it can affect the coil at the bottom of the center mount tweeters)

HWCS300 Hawg Wired 2x75 watt amplifier
VTFSA14 2014 & up ft spk wire harness adapter
VTRAW15 2015 Road Glide amp harness, 8 gauge
VTRAM15L 2015 Roadglide- Hawg Wired Amp mount
VTTO14 V-Twin Audio amplifier turn-on wire
+ SHIPPING

Comes with Front Fairing and Tank removal Instructions and wired up to go
All goes well - should have this mounted by next weekend - then Dealer Flash

will post pics of the install

DEALER FLASH - used to be to turn on rear channels - I'd assume it's the same

you would only need that if adding rear speakers, etc, lids, pods, and second amp

which is not the same as running 4 speakers off one 2 channel amp

2 sets of 4ohm speakers in parallel will run the 2 channel amp at 2ohm

if you have kappas, you're already there, 2ohm, correct

not many amps are 1ohm stable, and even if they say they are.. most of harley's stuff is, so strike that, but it's how they sell bigger numbers

out of the loop here, haven't been inside a 15 yet

#37 ·
yes you are right it is to flatline the EQ - they took a copy of the paper
and said they will contact HD to know more - I call BS

FYI - System sounds like crap! VTwin Audio says EQ flash will fix it - Don't think Dealer is willing to do it because it's not HD product

Get This__ HD MOCO says its a NO CHARGE service
Marina HD dealer says he'll do it no charge, had VTwin Audio from Canada contact him --

IMfamous HD Dealer in Canoga Park area says it's a minimum charge of $45.00 to do the flash - UnF*&%Believeable
but believable as they are famous for price gouging every chance they get!

guess who'll be getting my business, the extra time and miles to get the Marina will be worth it!

I have to say This-- should have gone with these from the start as I wanted, because I had them on my 2013 Road Glide and they sounded great (but experimented thinking I'd find better for my application) ($$$ later should have bought header pipes instead!) --- Instead I tried the Infiniti Kappas / JL Audio's best C5-650X with crossovers- then I tried these, The J&M's are by far the Clear (pun) winner - Best Bass, Best Clarity, Best look (with Grills) and overall BEST SOUND!! running them with 2 Ch Hawg Wired 300W Amp---do not want Bag speakers and with thes there is No Need!! bought them $299 free shipping from DCP---I HAVE FOUND MY SPEAKERS I'M DONE SEARCHING!!!:D:D:D
