I’ve got a fuel pack tuner, and a buddy turned me on to the thunder max. He said it’s expensive, but way better. My 2016 Rushmore’s stock 103 had a 110 upgrade, custom heads, a 255 cam, arlen ness big sucker, and a two into one cobra exhaust. Anyhow, was wondering if any of yall had any recommendations.

By fuel pack, I assume you’re talking about the V&H FP3 tuner…..? If so, I’m very surprised you were able to get a decent tune out of it for your 110 upgrade…….. I’m currently running the FP3 on my Stage 2 TC 103, and while I managed to get it to work by going direct to V&H for support, it’s far from optimal……. This coming weekend the bikes getting tuned on a dyno with a Power Vision tune……

The general consensus is the FP3 was a good option for a stage 1, but that’s pretty much its limit……. People have used it for a stage 2 (cam) update with varying degrees of success, myself included, but it’s still a canned map tuner….. Their current version is the FP4 which is an EPA compliant tuner and not any better than the Screaming Eagle tuner…… Even if you’re not chasing numbers and just looking for a solid reliable tune, a custom dyno tune for your specific bike is the way to go. And most dyno tuners use the Power Vision.

The TMax has some great benefits, but it's a FICKLE beast even for the most experienced tuners. If you decide that it's the route you wanna go, it may be best to buy it from someone who's able to tune it on the spot. FuelMoto can sell you a map based on your components, as can Cycle Solutions. I bought a good base map from Cycle Solutions and spent a lot of time letting auto tune do it's thing across various driving conditions and it runs like a top, but it's painful getting there, and the learning curve is pretty steep. It's not just a tuner, it's an ECM replacement, which comes with it's own set of headaches. Feel free to shoot me a note if you have questions and I'll be happy to answer what I can.
