Self made vent for nowhere near the cost of the Trask or dipstick...that said, wonder what the part off the 2020 models cost as a replacement for the earlier models? Probably still cheaper than either of those? 🤔🤔

 

How does a trans breather relieve crankcase pressure when they are separate tanks? Maybe how a primary vent relieves trans pressure? LOL

 

I thought the same thing a couple months ago when I heard about the trans top cover vent. Apparently there is a little passage through the trans housing to the oil tank side of it

 

You can make your own dipstick vent for literally under $30 using your stock dipstick

 

Ok so regardless of making it or not. Is this something that is important to do to the m8s or not? Im all about preventive maintenance.

 

According to my mechanic...YES, it is very important to use one of these fixes. Had I known about it, I would have used
the $99.99 A1 version referenced above or made the fix in the video. I used the Fueling Parts version.

It is also important to fix the Trans to Primary oil transfer problem mentioned above. There's a guy in Wisconsin that sells an $80.00 clutch shaft that is thicker than HD's. It solves this problem and takes about 1/2 hour to install.

It is also important to fix the oil into the cylinder breather issue. Doc Harley has a real good utube video on this issue with a simple fix also.

 

If you don't want to make your own, check out a1 cycles, they have the same thing as fueling just less money. I feel it makes a difference at low end, that or I had to much oil in it when I changed it.

Does this mitigate the intermittent crank to primary transfer issue?

 

The transfer issue is trans to primary. These only vent the engine oil crankcase which is housed separately in the transmission case. There are a couple fixes for the trans to primary transfer but they are different

 

This is what I did:

. I liked his solution, similar to the Trask cover but cost me less than $10, was easy to do. It's interesting, when you remove the trans cover you do see a vent for the crankcase in there...it's almost like Harley was going to vent it (right next to the trans vent) but the EPA wouldn't let them. So far, so good for me.

Did this modification to my '19. Easy enough, probably spent more time getting those cover screws out and back in, lol.

I did mine this exact way and I am burping oil everywhere from the uni filter. How is yours? I am running the same 1 way check valve Ron suggested in the vid. When you did yours, did you drill a hole in the gasket to line up with the installed fitting? Thats what I did...I will probably go back and snip out the entire cavity and use more line and hopefully that will help.

Didnt HD change the oil pump in 202 models to get rid on Sump issues and make this a non issue???

 

Would it hurt or help to do the vented dip stick and trans cover?

 

One more input here...When I did this mod on my 17 RG I noticed a difference in the flywheel being able to turn/rev faster...I think this is a worthy mod
