So my husband and I are riding with some friends to NC from here in NJ. As a passenger the farthest Ive gone is around 100 miles... yeah I know.

Im looking for some tips from other passengers or riders.. how do i keep my legs and butt from feeling like crap?? We cant stop a whole bunch of times, so unless theres a car going too, which Im not sure, I may just be out of luck in the whole avoiding pain area. Hubby and I will both have backrests so Im trying to figure out where else i can put my legs. Ha. He mentioned getting floorboards for me, think it'll help?

Help??

I agree with that. My wife said floorboards made a huge difference because it allowed her to move around alot when her legs started going numb. She said it lessened the vibration in her feet as well.

This is going to sound crazy but, underwear is the key to my comfort...along with a few other things. On long rides, I wear bicycle shorts (underwear) There is no stitching that you sit on and I swear, it really makes a difference. One other thing I learned, on a 10 hour ride, only stopping for gas and gatorade, if you use your pegs or boards to push on slightly while using your backrest, taking pressure off the lower back, that helps as well.

Now I am ready for the jokes.

Footboards will be a big plus for you. Also worth looking at are the adjustable passenger mounts by HD or Kuryakyn.

An Airhawk Set Cushion will save you from having a sore butt.

If you have a Tourpak a Tourpak relocator is worth looking into as well. There are numerous ones available. I just recently purchased this one from A&S and we are quite happy with it.

All of the above... I run the passenger floorboards, with the Kuryakyn passenger highway pegs. I have the Ultra set up for two up touring, so a backrest isn't an issue. My former (ExGf) passenger said it made a big improvement when I added those for her. Even a gel pad on the seat may alleviate some long haul issues.

I would like to suggest you don't get cotton. Get the spandex (or whatever it is). It really seems to wick the moisture away and you stay dry. Don't know the science behind it.

I bought an expensive pair online and wore it the first day of a 10 day, 4k mile trip. After the first day I went to walmart and bought several more pairs. Work just as well.

Why has no one mentioned a good rain suit?
If you ride long enough sooner or later you will get caught in the rain. Cold and wet makes for a miserable ride. A good rain suit makes all the difference for Momma and I.
We have Harley Hi Vis suits.

+1 on the Advil, underwear, and hydration.
There is no substitute for time in the saddle. The more you ride the less it hurts.

yes floor board will make a huge difference! everyone has pretty much mentioned other things that help. if you can get jeans that have thin or no pockets on the booty that helps too, at least for me. of course always take a rain suit, wear sun block, and flex your butt muscles every now and then :D

Does anyone run the solo tour pak and do they suggest a relocator for that too? I'm doing a 1500 mile trip during labor day and trying to prepare. I'm going to run tour pak solo and use it as backrest.

Another NO COTTON caution. Under Armor (or "Under Armor-like") synthetic compression shorts or as seemless as possible micro wool drawers (Smart Wool or Wool Power).

And ear plugs.

I assume that if you have passenger pegs instead of floorboards, that you will be on a Road Glide Custom. If you try to ride the distance on the stock custom seat you will be miserable.
A sundowner seat, or a similar seat, with pegs, along with the other suggestions will make for a pleasant trip.
I cannot over emphasize the importance of a good padded seat.

Ear plugs, proper clothing, sun screen or sleeves, used as needed, will make your long days fun.

Air Hawk

Just got back from a 3200 mile trip. Brought the wife's air hawk in case somebody got a sore butt. First day out gave it to a friend & he used it all week. When we got back he went to J&P for their open house & bought one. He was really impressed by the air hawk. . I have a Russell day long seat, I usually switch back & forth between air hawk & seat on a long trip.

Stuff For A Better Experience

Hello.:D

I just did a decent ride of 3500 miles.
I did a thread call Gear and Gadgets before I went.
Perhaps look this up as there was a lot of great suggestions to what to take a long.
One that I would add is a throttle assist / rest. Even is you have cruise control. Cost about 10 dollars and worth a Million!!

Have a great ride.

Carry water, cash, sunscreen, siphon hose (etc) and also hats for covering your head when riding with no helmet. :D
