Soundstream V2 initial impressions

So I stated that if it showed up and was everything promised I would say so. I installed the radio Friday and set off on a group iron butt at 4am Saturday. Figured playing with buttons on the ride would keep me occupied. 10 minutes into the l ride I decided this would be better left to when I was in the garage and not traveling a highway.

It is indeed impressive and allows for lots of features. Install was very simple and all the buttons worked. I might change some functions for my convenience but that is simply a preference thing.

It works flawlessly with the phone and through the bikes speakers. I used my srl sena and did get it to work. Seemed to have a problem reconnecting at each gas stop, when it got turned off. I believe this an android auto issue and not the V2. I was able to listen to music via stereo through the sena with no whim unit.

Several in our group liked it and at least one was looking online by the end if the day.

I have some questions, as to the speed configuration as I didn't think it was particularly easy to read. I might use the V2 for all those gauges I don't have in the RG already.

Sound was louder with stock speakers. I imagine those of you that are speaker junkies get pretty good results. It has made me think of another upgrade.

Overall, the radio boots up faster, and works as described. I still believe that Soundstream has a poor business culture, which causes many vendors undue problems. The radio appears awesome and the features plentiful.

I want to hear what others think. I learn so much from others observations and opinions. Let hear it

I'm going to hazard a guess that a vast majority of potential SoundStream users aren't using a connected PV. Certainly some are, and SS may eventually solve that riddle. If not, well....sometimes things just don't work out and it comes down to a choice.

I'm still very interested in the V2 and have been gathering as much info as possible. $1800 all-in is a LOT of money to upgrade the main infotainment unit. On the other hand you can find plenty of people dropping over $2k just on their audio. I'm not an audiophile on the bike....meaning the actual bike's stereo. In all of our riding I know we haven't done 50 total miles with the main audio playing. We're in-helmet users only. But we do use the main infotainment unit's features constantly when riding. To my eyes and brain, the SS V2 appears far more updated and functional than the GTS unit. It makes the GTS look like old technology.

In my old bike i stopped the pv from constant monotoring. Didn't see it adjusting after a while of my riding style. That said, once it was set, it was very good. I'm sure soundstream will eventually alow the two to talk.

Having now played with the V2 for awhile, flashed it and such. It does alot. I'm not an audiophile either, but sound in the speakers is noticeable as better.
I've linked the helmets, as we use them for intercom. This was our main reason for the radio. Didn't have harley headsets or the whim. With andoid auto, satellite and headsets I now have more than enough audio.l

I've noticed that the v2 gauges, they are pretty detailed. I've set them to monitor stuff that I don't normally watch. So now I have many questions about head temperature, intake air, etc. Always learning something.

I did flash the mrr maestro to their choices, not volunteer audios. Also added a few quick buttons that jump to a particular screen. I'm extremely pleased that it works as described.

Still see zero value in rally mode. Don't know why it's even there.

Price is certainly an issue. I'm sure I'll watch them drop off fast, as all technology does. Then will be looking t a V3 or V4....

I have the Soundstream 2013HDHU and was one of the first to get one off the boat when they arrived. It doesn’t have one sixteenth the function that’s yalls has as my older bike isn’t a full canbus system. But it does CarPlay which is what I was after……. Anyway, I paid $1,100 for mine and they’re now selling for $700……..

What’s the half-price life of a $1000 phone? Tech prices always slide. You pay the premium to get the latest stuff….or you wait a few years. By then you’re halfway to the next generation release. We all know how it works. I don’t mind the price, but I expect it to not be full of bugs or need a weekly software patch to fix an issue.

I've now done over 3000k miles and can assure you I'm not fully sold. Sound quality is phenomenal, as is the Maestro gauges and hand controls.

Oddly, if I hit a hard bump it seems to jump screens. I believe it's in the usb to phone connection.

The headset set up is infuriating. I can't listen to separate music of passenger. When I select intercom I'll can talk buy no music. Have to hit a button to re select music.

Now I may indeed be screwing up and it could be the android auto. I did notice when service drops, riding in adirondacks, the screens jumped around.

Some of the trip I did have the ability to listen to music and have talking on a sena srl to sena 50s via mesh network. When not talking I had music, phone etc.

So yes I like the radio, no it's not flawless. At least not yet, but it may be operator error or something other than yhe soundstream. Better than I had w HD, but maybe my expectations aren't realistic.

I was planning on a chat with volunteer, and sena after the holiday. I'm not convinced it isn't a simple setting etc.

If it's just me and my helmet the radio is beyond amazing.

I'd love to know....
1. Has anyone paired a set (rider & passenger) of helmet headsets, and how good/clear is intercom communication?
2. What are your impressions of the on-board iGo GPS navigation package? Turn by turn?
3. Glitches or oddities with thumb controls?
4. Audio quality; speakers and/or headset.
5. Customization of screen(s)layout.....icon placement?

1. I don't use any sort of comms, so can't give any input

2. I've used the onboard nav briefly, just to test it, it's the same as every other built in navigation, in that it will get you home, but not as good as google, apple maps, or waze

3. I had a fee glitches early on, but none to speak of since the Maestro and V2 updates dropped

4. audio quality is amazing!

5. you can change the icon layout, but I haven't messed with that at all, as I have carplay up all the time

I called one of the HD dealerships I favor, knowing they carried SoundStream radio units. Larry told me they didn't yet have the V2 but several are inbound. Remarkably, I qualify for 15% discount on all in-store purchases except bikes. He confirmed that, and I'd be in line to save about $250 if I buy the radio from them.

Meanwhile....I continue to watch videos and read everything I can find about the V2 and the Maestro module.

I got mine July 13th so i have the most recent update. this is on a 2020 Road Glide. I am still not getting the low fuel alert even though i get the light on the original gauge. Anyone seen this?

Also, i was setting up gauges in the V2. I could not get a readout on Oil Pressure. I was told by the vendor that sold me the radio that this is a CVO function. So two questions….can the ECM/BCM be flashed turn this on? What other gauge functions are CVO only?

Thanks!!

I still have not made the decision whether (or not) to buy the V2. I've been carefully watching and reading everything possible about the unit. I know it's generally great but it seems like there are very few people who've experienced a flawless introduction. SS and a few online vendors have been working overtime to provide updates and troubleshooting advice. It seems to me that SS rolled out the V2 knowing the initial round of buyers would basically become beta testers. Given the amount of bugs and gremlins I've seen described I've decided to continue watching and waiting ...but I'm still eyeing the candy.

I’ve had my V2 a month or so now. Updates were pretty easy. Wireless car play didn’t work correctly but Apple fixed the bugs in the last update they pushed. CarPlay works great now. In helmet sound with non HD Sena works well. Totally free to change to whatever brand I want as well. Bar controls work great. GPS works great when not using car play. Gages are fun. Haven’t figured everything out yet but getting there.

I purchased the Soundstream SI for my 2017 RGS back in June 2024.
I got mine from Sinnister Sound in IN....Great guys and highly recomend.
It took me about 6 months to set it up...No forums or assistance.
My first big trip to Sturgis it disconnected 38 times.
On the way home it was 35.
I ended up swapping it out for a new one and also changed phones.
I finally have it set up so that its enjoyable and it hardly disconnects now.
Between the radio and Mistro and motorola it was crazy expensive...almost $2,000.00cad
Defintely not Canadian friendly :(
I do love some of the features like google maps and android auto.
Ive even signed up for spotify.
One of my favorite features is being able to use the mic to enter locations if i forgot to pre set.
I too am playing with some of the features like heat and such while riding.
My local dealer has informed me the the M8 does indeed have a heat sensor on the heads and believes my finding are accurate.
Heres some results.
i look forward to do more tests like this and will report my findings.
