So I did a little something...

You may remember I emailed & called Rockford Fosgate Tech Support to get the lowdown on their new 250 Watt RMS (each) "Stage III" fairing speakers last week. Post Here

Well, yep since I had a store credit and figured I could lay off my Stage II's on eBay I bought a set of Stage III fairing speakers today.

And without any hyperbole, take a look at the differences in weight and size between the 250 Watt RMS Stage III & 125 Watt RMS Stage II 6.5" speakers in the pictures I took.

I'll add some findings after I get a few miles on'm, but I will say just from fiddle-fucking around in the garage I am absolutely, positively selling my Stage II AND my recently acquired pair of Hertz SX-165NEO's.

I also took a couple pics of the 250W RMS Stage III vs. 100W RMS Hertz SX-165NEO's. The RF Stage III are 3-way speakers and Hertz are 2-way. The reason this Hertz is "shiny" is I "treated" (waterproofed 🌨) it because they have paper cones. They say they are already treated new, but a little extra treatment never "hertz".

What did you "treat" the Hertz with? I picked up a new set to replace my old Arc Moto's. Is it really necessary to treat speakers?

65° in Denver today - we've had a run of great riding days!

Got 100+ miles in today so here's my take on the new Stage III fairing speakers:

Overall they sound great, and they "penetrate" at serious highway speeds (the best word I can think of). The fidelity & clarity sounds the same as the Stage II speakers, there's not much difference there, but they take noticeably less of the volume control to get "loud" at highway speeds. Meaning there's even more volume in reserve for higher speeds. I had no problems hearing them up to 100MPH in the wind today, none. Cruising at 80 wasn't pushing them at all. We had so much wind around town today it wasn't worth trying to record video, I'll do that some other time.

I am pleased. Just wish they had these when I put my Stage II+ system together - could've saved some $$$ and bypassed the Stage II & Hertz "experiments" altogether.

I hear much better highs with both the RF Stage 2 & 3 speakers. Probably because they are 3-way versus the Hertz which are only 2-way.

The Hertz sounded "flat" to me, even though they were a touch louder than the Stage 2's.

The 3's really hit the bullseye on both fidelity and loudness at speed.

And the latest update no doubt re-calibrated the Automatic Volume Control. The AVC is perfect for my levels of listening while riding. Set it and go.

What speakers do the CVO's come with for 2025? 2, or 3?

You guys are trouble haha. Joking aside, with my bike sitting all covered up was not planning to do any other work on it, but based on the good discussion I read here, called up one of the local dealers and they had the stage 3 fairing speakers in stock, so pulled the trigger on this and the amp.

Install was straightforward, but the new software update has been a PITA. Testing the speakers in the garage, they do sound much better than stock, even without the new sw upgrade.

Might have the dealer do the sw update when I go for my 1k service

I just put the Stage III fairing speakers in my 24 RG. Got about 30 seconds of sound at 25%. Volume bar would not go any higher. Now I cannot get any sound at all. The musical note at the bottom of the volume bar has a red slash in it. Control buttons have no affect. Have removed all bluetooth devices from the list. I can hear the beeps when I change menus. I can hear the white noise whenever I go into sound setup. I cannot do the amp settings since I am still running the stock amp. Sound routing is through the speakers. Only thing i have noticed out of the ordinary (other than no sound) is that the Media volume keeps resetting to 0. I will set it to 17 (max), push the button to select, back out of the menu, but when I come back it is still zero.
Have tried the ignition on, pull the fuse, ignition off, reinsert fuse. No luck there. Going to leave the fuse out overnight.

Happening on USB, FM, and AM.
Most recent software update done on the 10th

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Missing stage 3 fairing option
I have a 24 cvo rg that came with the stage 2 package. I just did the newest software update in preparation for installing stage 3 speakers. But when I go into speaker configuration it only shows stage 1 & 2 as options for fairing. For the saddlebag speakers it gives the option for 1,2, and 3.
Any suggestions for what I need to do before installing stage 3 speakers in the fairing?
When I go into the system check it shows the latest software version 4125.
Thanks in advance!

I'm still waiting for the stage 3 speakers to arrive because they are backordered but I had some time today to install the 500 watt amp. I can't believe how easy the outer fairing was to remove. Fairing removal, amp install and fairing install took a grand total of about 20 minutes lol. The bike recognized the new amp almost immediately without me doing anything and displayed the current amp software 1540. It even showed the production date of the amp as 11/24. After I got the amp and fairing back together I did the new skyline software update which also went smoothly without any hitches.

For shits and giggles because I still have the stock speakers and I don't care if they blow, I decided to experiment a little. With the 500 watt amp installed I set the speaker selection to stage 3 and blasted some music. I will say it is much louder even with the stock speakers lol. Don't know how long they'd last but I don't care. Being winter here still i don't think I'll be doing much riding before the stage 3 speakers get here anyway. I'm looking forward to getting the stage 3 installed

That's what I love about my 20 RG, that the fairing comes off so easily. Can't wait to do it on this one. The videos I have seen show a LOT less wires than the 20. LOL

I was able to select Stage III. I didn’t do anything to the custom eq - I still have it on Harley. Is there a custom eq setting I should be using?

Congratulations!

As long as you have all the updates, and the amp update you're good. No flash required.

Were you able to select the Stage III front speakers?

Did you adjust your "Custom" settings on the EQ?

That Stage III with 500 Watt amp will eat a battery playing around in the garage. Even to the point the volume will drop to 25% when the bike goes into battery save mode. I leave it on the 5 Amp Battery Tender when I'm fooling around with it in accessory mode.

I use a Type C thumb drive with all my music on it - don't recall hearing any white noise, just loud tunes.

Those EQ settings at speed sound good. Volume 9 out of 17, Automatic Volume Control at 4. Luckily I don't have to fiddle with the volume control when I almost got caught in that groove at 100MPH. Probably would have taken me out at 40 or 50... Highways out here really suck lately. They've redirected funds for other stupid sanctuary bullshit.

So I’ve been on the fence for a while between Rockford Fosgate and a Hertz system. When I saw the new stage three fairing speakers come out that definitely suede my thinking towards Rockford Fosgate and I just bought the stage three fairing speakers and the upgraded amp yesterday. I don’t know what the stage one or stage two speakers sound like but the stage three is definitely all I need. I might at some point down the road put the bag lid speakers in, but you’re not gonna really hear them going down the highway anyways.
